PRIDE.....where did it begin?

Image
PRIDE… where did it start? 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the first Pride march in the UK. On 1 July 1972 a ‘carnival parade’ of protest was held from Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square London. It was the first Gay Pride in a city in the UK arranged for the nearest Saturday to the Stonewall date of 28 June. The Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the early hours of June 28, 1969 when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The raid sparked a riot among bar patrons and neighbourhood residents as police roughly hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement outside the bar on Christopher Street, in neighbouring streets and in nearby Christopher Park. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world. Check out what is happening in Hull Pride in Hull 2022 *Pride in

National Writing Day

National Writing Day – June 23rd 2022 National Writing Day offers the opportunity to celebrate the many facets of creative writing. Writing allows us all the potential to express our own thoughts, feelings and ideas by putting pen to paper. Sometimes its about elaborate works of fiction, exciting and inspiring stories and prose or merely the chance to express our inner most feelings. Writing can be a shared experience or a personal journey. Sometimes when we are struggling with difficulties we find it hard to talk to those around us, but being able to write those feelings down helps us to begin the process of understanding ourselves and can manifest as poetry, song or a diary entry. The written word is powerful.

Grounding, what is it?.....We often feel stressed and on edge, grounding helps us to centre ourselves again and release tension.

A guided mediation that allows you to reconnect with your physical being and become grounded and steady. Too many of us lose touch with how we are really feeling as we multi -task our way through the day. This exercise allows us to bring attention back to ourselves and refocus our energies in times of stress.

What is depression?

Working in mental health the subject of depression often comes up. What is it? Do I have depression? Mental health issues are different for everyone and we all experience the world in an individual way. However a few years ago WHO (The World Health Organisation) published an animated video where someone attempts to describe depression. It may resonate with some and not others but its definitely worth a watch if you've not seen it before.
