The Bi Visibility Day story : The annual 23rd of September celebration started in 1999 as International Celebrate Bisexuality Day, created by three bi activists from the USA – Wendy Curry of Maine, Michael Page of Florida (also well-known as the creator of the bisexual flag), and Gigi Raven Wilbur of Texas. It has also been variously known as Bi Pride Day, Bi Day and Celebrate Bisexuality Day. The use of the name Bi Visibility Day instead started with UK with Jen Yockney, and spread first across Europe and then further around the world. That year it was marked in the USA, UK and South Africa: this list has grown to more than 30 countries in recent times. IT’S THE 24TH ANNUAL BI VISIBILITY DAY . The date highlights bisexuality and the challenges posed by biphobia and bisexual erasure, as well as celebrating the work of a growing number of local, national and international organisations around the world which champion bisexual visibility and equality. Endings

Endings…. Summer holidays are upon us so that means endings. Second years will finish college for good whilst those of you in year 1 will be contemplating the end of a first year at college. Whether you are finishing completely or ending for the summer and returning in the autumn, all of you are experiencing some kind of ending. It will be different for everyone, some will be embracing the end, some of you will be apprehensive about the end, whilst other will feel a bit numb, all that effort and angst and now its stopped. With endings also come beginnings. So how do I shift from an ending to a beginning? But here is a checklist of things to consider whilst experiencing that transition. Make Plans. If not already d...

PRIDE.....where did it begin?

Image
PRIDE… where did it start? 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the first Pride march in the UK. On 1 July 1972 a ‘carnival parade’ of protest was held from Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square London. It was the first Gay Pride in a city in the UK arranged for the nearest Saturday to the Stonewall date of 28 June. The Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the early hours of June 28, 1969 when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The raid sparked a riot among bar patrons and neighbourhood residents as police roughly hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement outside the bar on Christopher Street, in neighbouring streets and in nearby Christopher Park. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world. Check out what is happening in Hull Pride in Hull 2022 *Pride in ...

National Writing Day

National Writing Day – June 23rd 2022 National Writing Day offers the opportunity to celebrate the many facets of creative writing. Writing allows us all the potential to express our own thoughts, feelings and ideas by putting pen to paper. Sometimes its about elaborate works of fiction, exciting and inspiring stories and prose or merely the chance to express our inner most feelings. Writing can be a shared experience or a personal journey. Sometimes when we are struggling with difficulties we find it hard to talk to those around us, but being able to write those feelings down helps us to begin the process of understanding ourselves and can manifest as poetry, song or a diary entry. The written word is powerful.
