Breathing

Breathing

Taking the time to stop and breath is really helpful to relieve stress and anxiety. Try the following breathing exercise to help you to feel calm;

Sit or lay comfortably and quietly, choose a room where you will not be disturbed. If you are sitting, place your feet on the ground and sit up straight. Close your eyes and try and free your mind of everyday thoughts and issues. Don’t worry if you find it difficult to switch off your mind, the breathing exercise will still be helpful.

Take a deep breath in for 3 seconds through your nose, then let it out fully through your mouth. Place your hands on your tummy and feel it rise with each breath and fall when you release each breath. Do this 10 times. You should start to feel yourself relax, the more you concentrate on your breathing, the more your mind quietens.

Try this exercise each day and when you are feeling stressed, worried or anxious. It is also good for people who suffer with panic attacks.
