Structure for Well Being

Well done everyone, we have made it through the first week of remote working and staying home. I know it has not been easy, but you should be unbelievably proud of yourselves for accomplishing this. Below is a suggestion for structuring your days, to keep you well and on task. This will give you structure, a focus and a sense of control over the restrictions which are currently in place for us all. Self Injury Awareness Day Raising awareness of self-injury leads to understanding and empathy, banishing judgment and fear, and reducing the number of people who feel alone and suffer in silence. I had a black dog We posted this video in May 2019, some of you may have seen this video and for others this may be the first time. The video is an insight into what it is like to live with depression, please take 4 minutes from your day to view the video.Please talk to others if you are feeling low, it is important to talk openly with your friends and family and trusted adults. There are many support avenues available to you, take a look at the student support walls opposite the reception desk and outside the tutor office for more information. Time to Talk Day

Today is Time to Talk Day so make the time to talk to others. Talking about mental health isnt always easy, here are a few tips to get you started; Ask questions and then listen, for example, ‘how does that affect you’ and ‘what does that feel like’ Don’t worry about finding the perfect place to talk, go for a walk or sit quietly together You don’t need to fix things, just listen Don’t treat them any differently, they are still the same person If they don’t want to talk, spend quality time with them, that way they know you are there for them Remember there is support available, you can acccess the Big White Wall 24/7 https://www.bigwhitewall.com/v2/LandingV2.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f You can also check out the support services listed within the Emotional Well-being Blog.

Feeling Lonely

It can be really hard when you feel lonely and you do not think you have anyone you can turn to for support. It is important to identify areas in your life where you can access support, this may be from a trusted adult in your family or within college. It could be talking to your employer or leaders at any activities you access, for example, a sports coach. It could also be talking to your friendship group to share positive coping strategies.
