Setting Goals and Keeping Focussed

Looking forward and making plans keeps you focused and helps to keep you feeling well. As we approach the next chapter in our lives think about what you want to achieve. What are your goals for the next few months, the next 6 months or the next year. Choose smart achievable goals and identify how you will meet those goals. Setting goals gives you motivation and helps you to plan your time. Visualising what you want to achieve will help you to stay focused. Follow this formula to create your goals; S pecific – Clearly identify your goal M easurable – Define the goal in measurable terms A ttainable – Choose goals that are realistic and manageable R elevant – Make sure the goal is something you really want and is important to you T ime bound – Decide the time frame to meet your goal If this feels slightly overwhelming, start small. Pride Awareness Month

June 2021 is Pride awareness month. Pride is celebrated each June in honour of the Stonewall Uprising, which took place in 1969 in Manhattan. There have been great developments in the LGBTQ community and here at Wyke we promote the equality and diversity of all our students, and we expect all students to feel safe and supported. You may feel like you have questions but are not quite sure who to ask. Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is mental health awareness week. The Mental Health Foundation are asking people to connect with nature. This is because more than half of UK adults said that nature improved their Mental Health. Four in Ten people say that it made them less anxious or worried. Almost two thirds said that being close to nature meant they experienced positive emotions. Click here for the video with more information. Some of the ways you can participate in Mental Health Awareness Week: 1) During Mental Health Awareness Week, why not try to make a habit each day of connecting to the nature in your local area? Stop to listen to the birdsong, smell the freshly cut grass, take care of a house plant, notice any trees, flowers, or animals nearby. Loosing someone close to you can be extremely upsetting, everyone’s experience of grief can be very different, there is no correct way to feel. There are support services available which can help you to understand and manage the feelings associated with grief. Grief can also happen because of other types of loss including a relationship ending, loss of a pet or moving house or school. The current covid pandemic has also caused people a sense of loss due to missing out on education, celebrations and spending time with friends and family. Stress Awareness Month - April 2021

It is so nice to have all students back on site , whilst for most this is something to celebrate others may feel anxious and could also have an increased feeling of ‘Stress’ April is Stress Awareness Month and the theme for this year is ‘Regaining Connectivity, Certainty and Control’. You are asked to pick one action each for your Physical, Mental and Emotional Wellbeing to carry out every day. New Beginnings

As we move into Spring 2021, nights are getting lighter and on Sunday 28th March 2021 at 2am clocks Spring forward 1 hour. Everything seems full of promise, flowers are growing and new life is appearing. Lets take this opportunity to Spring into action and set goals and targets and think of ways to improve our wellbeing. Focus on the positives, get outside and enjoy the fresh air and with the governments road map you can start to plan more social time with friends and family. This will help you to stay connected and have some fun, boosting your well-being. Outdoor organised sport is also recommencing so maybe it is time to get back in touch with your old sports team or start a new hobby.
